To The Moon In Three Days

by PRmuse on Feb.15, 2010, under Social Media 2010

This has stuck in my mind for several weeks… a conversation with my son about the moon. Did you know that you could be there in three days? No wonder there’s an airlines gearing up to sell tickets.

Somehow, this is a paradigm-shifter for me. I know we talk about how small our world has become and how social media has brought us together even closer. Knowing that the moon is such a close neighbor changes the playing field for me.

For example, if challenged to write a list of “Things I Could Do In A Week,” I now know that it’s possible to add “going to the moon and back.” I couldn’t drive to and from California in that amount of time.

Doesn’t that make you think?

Social Media: Turning Into a New Decade

by PRmuse on Dec.21, 2009, under Social Media 2010

In the midst of a wide range of predictions for the new year, I have found several to be worth noting.

Janak Mehta, of Social Media Michigan, shared his insights during the group’s December meeting in Livonia last week. Several points are especially thought-provoking as a backdrop to my planning for 2010.

The surge in mobile social media was a personal epiphany. I’m not sure why I hadn’t given this change much thought, but we all should. The potential impact is huge. As Janak pointed out, SM users are seeing more and more employers banning SM use on company computers. So how do they connect during the work day? On their mobile, in the rest room, of course. I’m not sure I want to think further about the corporate monitoring that could emerge in response to this trend.

If you’ve ever tried to juggle the internet on your phone, you know how the visuals need to be severely edited to make sense. So this is going to be one challenge begging for our attention.

Monthly meetings are only one benefit fromĀ  membership in Social Media Michigan. Check it out — even if you don’t live in the Detroit area, you could still find it helpful.
